Award tickets for Thanksgiving flights between large U.S. airports will cost 32% more than last year, according to data from Seats.aero, a miles and points redemption search site. The data covers one-way flights averaged as of early November.
Airlines have largely replaced static mileage redemption charts with dynamic pricing, so redemption costs now shift with demand, routes and other factors. Many of the most expensive routes are longer trips, including flights from Hawaii. The list also includes a nonstop from New York to Houston.
Even some of the cheapest award routes cost more than last year. One example is Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, a short route.
CNBC reports that jet fuel prices have risen since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on Feb. 28, which has cut into airline profits. Carriers have tried to pass those costs to consumers as much as possible. Airline executives said last month that demand remains strong.
